Indian Engineering Services (IES) Exam also called as Engineering Services (ES) Exam is a premier competitive Examination conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services.

It is to work under the Government of India to manage a large segment of public sector economy which constitutes of Railroads, Public works, Power, Telecommunications, etc. Candidates who are selected for IES are appointed as Assistant Executive Engineers in various departments under central government for Group A and Group B posts.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an All-India Examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

What is IES?

IES (Indian Engineering Services)

All appointments to the group A services are made by the president of India.Candidates have to apply IES through online. The application fee is Rs.200/- for male category general applicants, while no fee is required by reserved category and female applicants.

What is GATE?

GATE

It is conducted by a different institute every year among the 7 IITs & IISc, Bangalore. GATE Notification comes in the month of September and Test is conducted normally in the month of February and the Results are announced in the month of march every year.

GATE has become online now for all the 23 disciplines of Engineering. Candidates have to apply GATE through online. The application fee is Rs.1500/- for General/OBC and Rs.750/- for SC/ST/PwD* categories and female applicants of any category.

What is PSUc?

PSU Recruitment through GATE

Public sector undertaking company (PSUc) is a Government owned corporation or a company in which central or state government have more than 51% share. Basically these government companies run like private companies and share profits to Government.

PSU�s in India, for long, have had troubles conducting their recruitment processes with more than 100,000 students taking the exams for less than 1000 jobs (a selection rate of less than 1%). After sensing the exponential rise in the number of engineering graduates in India who wish to get a PSU job, the PSUs have decided that a GATE score shall be the primary criteria for initial shortlisting. This change was the primary cause for the rapid increase in GATE 2012.

Usually these companies release their recruitment notifications right after GATE notification, indicating that candidates have to take GATE for a job in their organizations. Thus, GATE score is used as a screening tool for recruiting engineers at entry level positions.
